Issues related to conscription into the army have always aroused keen interest in society. This topic is of interest not only to young men of military age, but also to their parents and relatives. A considerable part of the interested people are girlfriends of future recruits. Of the many questions that concern people, the main ones can be identified: Will the procedure and timing of conscription into the Russian army change? Will the term of service remain the same? Who is eligible for a deferment, and for what reason? We will try to answer these and other questions.

Conscription into the army

In 2017-18, it is carried out, as before, on the basis of the legislation of the Russian Federation. The basic norms are set out in the Law on Military Service, adopted in 1998. On November 11, 2006, a Government Decree was issued, which fixed new points regarding conscription into the Russian army.

Boys from eighteen to twenty-seven years old are called up for service. If we talk about the draft in 2017-18, then these will be guys born in 1990 - 2000. During this period, young men of military age receive summonses to the military registration and enlistment office, from where they are sent for a medical examination. Based on its results and in accordance with education, the draft commission determines the branch of the military where the recruit will serve in the future. How many serve in the Russian army in 2018

Until 2006, the period of service in the Russian army was two years. As conceived by the authors of the reforms, conscription remained only as a source of replenishment of the RF Armed Forces with rank-and-file contract soldiers. In short, every conscript is offered a contract to serve in the army for at least two years. At the same time it is provided good salary and more or less normal conditions of service. Such conditions compare favorably with regular service.

If you look at it, this option is quite normal. Guys can serve for two years, like their older brothers or fathers, but get more money for it. However, there is one caveat here. Currently, the state has the opportunity to send contract soldiers to military operations in any country where it sees fit. This could be Ukraine, Syria or any other country. As you know, war is merciless and no one is insured that they will return home “with a load of 200”. Conscripts are not exposed to such danger. So it's up to you to decide how to manage your life.

Deferment from service

Everything here also remains unchanged. The innovations did not affect this part of the call.

So, the following have the right to deferment:

• persons who did not pass medical commission;
• citizens who have exercised the right of alternative civil service;
• those who arrive in places of detention;
• persons who are abroad;
• students of secondary and higher educational institutions.

It is worth noting that studying at military departments of universities does not exempt you from military service. The candidate is still forced to serve in the RF Armed Forces, but as an officer.

Athletes competing in important competitions for the country can count on a deferment. In some cases specified by law, it is also given for family reasons.

List of diseases that make it impossible to serve in the Armed Forces

Military service requires excellent health - this is an indisputable fact. Currently there is following categories suitability of conscripts: A, B, C, D, D.

Belonging to group A means that the young man is completely healthy and fit for the army. Group D is assigned to guys who, under no circumstances, will not be in the Armed Forces. They have the following diseases:

The remaining categories represent various options from suitability with limitations to temporary unsuitability. Recruits prefer the letter B. It suggests that the recruit is of limited fitness. With such a conclusion, the guy can be drafted into the Armed Forces under martial law.

Group B holders can be in the RF Armed Forces, but not in every group of troops. The letter G gives the conscript the right to make a deferment while the detected illness is cured. After some time, the candidate is again invited to be examined by doctors.

Currently, the legislative acts relating to conscription provide a list of 86 diseases that make it impossible to serve in the RF Armed Forces. In summary, this list will look like this:

• some types of infectious diseases;
• diseases associated with endocrine system disorders and blood diseases;
• diseases caused by malignant tumors;
• mental disorders and nervous diseases;
• diseases of an otolaryngeal and ophthalmological nature;
• diseases associated with the gastrointestinal tract;
• skin diseases;
• post-traumatic consequences.

Innovations

• Among the innovations of recent years we can note special sets having personal hygiene products. Now relatives do not have to worry about the conscripts having razor accessories, scissors, etc.
• An innovation in recent years is napping during the day. Afternoon rest is one hour: 14.40-15.40.
• The issue of introducing two days off for military personnel is also being discussed. On Saturday and Sunday, conscripts will soon be able to go on leave.
• Among other innovations of the military department, one can note its plans to involve civilian organizations in preparing food for military personnel.
• The main innovation of the Armed Forces, of course, is the rearmament of the army, the emergence of the latest weapons and ever new means of protection and technical equipment.

The President of the Russian Federation has set the Ministry of Defense the task of increasing the percentage of contract soldiers to ninety percent in the near future, which means that the number of conscripts will decrease every year.

In accordance with the current legislation and the Constitution of the Russian Federation, every man aged 18 to 27 years is liable for military service and must undergo military service in the ranks internal troops. Today, the service life is one year for conscripts, regardless of the type of military service. No changes are expected in the Russian army in 2018, so the service life will also be 12 months. Currently, there is a tendency in the Russian army to transfer it to a contract basis. Today, in some publications in the media, there are rumors about a reduction in military service in 2018, but there are no specifics in this case.

The country's leadership and heads of military departments note the need to reform the institution of military service. Moreover, in neighboring countries are beginning to gradually abandon this practice. However, in Russia, despite the increase in the percentage of contract soldiers, no one is going to completely abandon compulsory conscription into the army. The only thing that can be discussed is a reduction in the length of service in the Russian army in 2018 to 6-8 months. At the same time, it is emphasized that if such a reduction occurs, it will not be earlier than 2020.

Recruitment into the army is currently carried out through autumn and spring conscription. In 2018, the conscription deadlines were chosen in such a way that young people would go to the army in the summer after finishing exams at universities and schools. Alternative service in the army

In Russia today, recruitment for alternative service is actively underway. Several years ago, a corresponding law was signed that regulates alternative military service. Such a service implies labor activity for the benefit of the state and society. Note that you can choose this type of military service only if being in the army contradicts the religious beliefs of the conscript or he belongs to the small nations of the north. Contract duration

Currently, contract service is gaining popularity in Russia, under which both officers and junior personnel are called up. The length of service under a contract today depends on the type of military service and the rank of the military man. Thus, for officers and midshipmen the service period is five years, and for soldiers, junior sergeants and sailors, depending on the type of military service, it is two and three years, respectively. With mutual agreement, after the end of the contract, it can be extended for a similar period.

Everyone knows that on December 31, all citizens of the Russian Federation celebrate the New Year - a big holiday. And the conscripts are looking forward to this day with special impatience. For young people of conscription age, this day is a holiday for another reason - the autumn conscription of 2019 ends on this day. Exceptions to the fall conscription dates

Regulatory documents of the Russian Federation provide for exceptions in the timing of the autumn conscription for some groups of residents of our country. Let's figure out which citizens fall under these exceptions.

The fact is that no official order can contradict federal law, and in the event of such a contradiction, the order is considered invalid. However, the Ministry of Defense does not plan to completely abandon conscription, at least for now, so you have little choice: either serve for a fixed-term period, or go for a 2-year contract.

Many guys are afraid of hazing, but with the transition to a one-year service, “grandfathers” in the previous sense of the word disappeared as a fact.
