That's why last love is scary

Him: Don't disappear... Having disappeared from me,

I'm forever betraying myself,
And this will be the lowest dishonesty.

The resentment cuts too deeply.

She: Don't disappear... Disappearing from me,
Having disembodied, you will disappear from yourself,
Don't change yourself
After all, this would be the lowest dishonesty.

Don't disappear... Disappearing is so easy.
It is impossible for each other to be resurrected.
The resentment cuts too deeply.
To become a stranger even for a moment, to become a stranger even for a moment is careless.

Him: Don't disappear... Forget about the third shadow.

She: Don't disappear... Forget about the third shadow.
There are only two in love. There are no third ones.
We will both be clean on Judgment Day,
when the trumpets call us to account.

Do not disappear. Give me your palm.
As for my destiny, I believe in it.
That's why last love is terrible,
That this is not love, that this is not love, but fear of loss.

Evgeniy Yevtushenko

DO NOT DISAPPEAR

Don't disappear... Disappearing from me,
disincarnate, you will disappear from yourself,
forever betraying myself,
and this will be the lowest dishonesty.

Don't disappear... Disappearing is so easy.
It is impossible for each other to be resurrected.
Death draws in too deep.
To become dead even for a moment is careless.

Don't disappear... Forget about the third shadow.
There are only two in love. There are no third ones.
We will both be clean on Judgment Day,
when the trumpets call us to account.

Don't disappear... We have atoned for sin.
We are both not subject to jurisdiction, not subject to restrictions.
You and I are worthy of the forgiveness of those
who were unwittingly inflicted wounds.

Do not disappear. You can disappear instantly
but how can we meet later in the centuries?
Is it possible for you to have a double in the world?
and my double? Only in our children.

Do not disappear. Give me your palm.
I am written on it - I believe in it.
That's why last love is terrible,
that this is not love, but fear of loss.

Analysis of the poem “Don’t Disappear” by Yevtushenko

In the poem “Don’t Disappear,” Evgeny Aleksandrovich Yevtushenko addresses his beloved woman, reflects on the paths of love and the vicissitudes of fate.

The poem was written around 1977. Its author at this time turned 45 years old, he is widely known to the reading public, especially after participating, along with other poets of the sixties, in a number of poetry concerts. During this period he was married to D. Butler, an Irish translator. In terms of genre - love lyrics, cross rhyme, sublime vocabulary, 6 stanzas. The addressee of the poem is possibly the poet's wife. He considers her his last love (in life, however, things will turn out differently, this marriage will fall apart). The title of the poem becomes a refrain, a spell. In the first quatrains these words are accompanied by an ellipsis, in the final ones - by a confident period. He feels how the heroine is moving away from him, although formally they are still together. Maybe the poems were created during a crisis family life. For a poet, to fall out of love means to disembodied, to lose oneself, one’s soul, the meaning of existence. He begs the heroine not to cross the line beyond which lies indifference. Losing a precious feeling is betrayal, only to yourself. It’s “so easy” to destroy. Starting over is much more difficult, almost like stepping into the same river twice. “Forget about the third shadow”: apparently, an allusion to a certain woman of whom the heroine is jealous of the poet. He assures that he is “pure” and is ready to justify himself even on the Day of Judgment (End of the World), that his heart was not given to another. “The trumpets will call to account”: that is, those who have already died. Then he looks back at the paths they took, not yet knowing about each other. “Involuntarily caused wounds”: well, indeed, before the conclusion of this marriage, E. Yevtushenko had a difficult separation from G. Sokol-Lukonina (she even tried to take her own life). In the penultimate stanza, the poet reminds that every person is unique, just like their love story. Their story must be written together. “Only in our children”: a touching passage. Indeed, this couple will have two sons. He reads his name in the lines of her hand. He is afraid of losing the heroine, the love that has inspired him for so long. A series of painful rhetorical questions, many metaphors associated with feelings, time, fate.

In the love lyrics of E. Yevtushenko there are strong motives of farewell, the imminent death of feelings, and misunderstanding.
