1. Church of the Holy Sepulcher
An ancient temple complex in Jerusalem, built on the site of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Contains several important relics. Divided between six Christian denominations. Every Christmas this is where the Holy Fire appears.

7. Jordan River

8. Bahai Gardens in Haifa

10. Masada Fortress
A powerful ancient defensive structure on top of an impregnable rock in the Judean Desert. Since ancient times it was used as a fortress and fortified home for the ruler and his family. The ruins contain many ancient buildings of historical value.
11. Al-Aqsa Mosque
Built on the Temple Mount, it has a long history and is considered the oldest mosque in the world. It has great historical and religious significance. The structure was erected in 636 and was rebuilt several times. There are seven galleries inside, the walls are decorated with marble and mosaics.
12. Dome of the Rock Mosque
Located on the Temple Mount, on a hill. Built over the legendary Foundation Stone that lies within. One of the oldest monuments of Islamic culture. An imposing, richly decorated structure, topped with a large golden dome.
13. Basilica of the Annunciation in Nazareth
Catholic Church in Nazareth. The modern building was built on the site of an older temple, which was erected on the spot where, according to legend, the Holy Family lived and the Annunciation took place.
14. Basilica of the Nativity in Bethlehem

I am not trying to elevate Israel and its attractions above other equally interesting countries. Every country in the world has its own unique and sacred places, but...
Israel differs from other countries in its unique atmosphere of spirituality. Therefore, being in this promised land, any attraction will seem special.
To be honest, during the 26 years of living in Israel, I have seen many of the country’s sights, but few have made a strong impression on me.
Despite this, every time I walk through the sacred places of Israel, something inside me turns over, twists, my soul and thoughts are smoothly transferred to the ancient biblical world. This is an incredible feeling that every person should experience.
In this article I will give a brief overview of the most popular and main attractions in Israel in my opinion, but in the future I will definitely talk in detail about each of them, as well as others that I did not mention here. That's why subscribe to blog updates, so as not to miss this information.
I want to be sincere with you and therefore I confess that since I am not a professor of historical sciences and cannot know about many historical facts, some of the information provided is taken from Wikipedia and other reliable sources.
But each such review will be supplemented by my personal impressions, so as not to make this article tritely informative, technical and dry.

Jerusalem and its attractions
Well, of course Jerusalem! What would it be like without him?
It is possible that with my sincerity I will spoil your impressions a little, but...after all, you are now not on an information site like Wikipedia, but on a personal blog, in which I will provide information based on my own experience, personal vision and inner feelings.
Thanks to my offline work, I visit Jerusalem relatively often. And you know, personally this city depresses me and even makes me depressed.
I'm used to secular and modern life. I live in Tel Aviv and this city is radically different from all cities in Israel, and even more so from Jerusalem! I'm used to seeing skyscrapers, huge shopping and business centers, bars and restaurants, the sea, the beach, people dressed in the latest fashion, girls in miniskirts and bikinis. Just kidding! (And in every joke there is a grain of joke)
As you can guess, Jerusalem is the exact opposite.
All buildings in Jerusalem are faced with special decorative tiles made of Jerusalem stone, thanks to which the same texture and color of all houses is preserved. Personally, I don't like it. The city looks gloomy and colorless.
And if this landscape is supplemented with ultra-dox Jews loitering idly in long cloaks and fur hats at an air temperature of 35 degrees and a huge number of Arab men and Arab women in burqas, then depression is guaranteed for you.
This is, of course, just my subjective opinion and it may differ from yours, but I had to warn you.
My opinion about Jerusalem and its attractions changes only when I find myself in the old city. Everything is different here. Here a person automatically disconnects from the modern world and is transported to an ancient era and this is a unique feeling.
So, despite my negativity at the beginning of the review, I strongly advise you to visit Jerusalem and preferably do it on an organized tour and with a professional guide.
Old City Jerusalem
The Old City of Jerusalem has been considered one of the holiest places in the world for thousands of years to this day. It contains relics and structures of shrines from three major religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
Consequently, the old city attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists every year from all over the world, who come to Israel to admire the ancient architecture and walk the same route that historical figures walked thousands of years ago.
However, along with its historical and religious significance, the old city is also considered one of Israel's top tourist attractions. It contains hundreds of alleys, hundreds of shops, thousands of products, delicacies, scents and flowers.
Jerusalem - Old City Bazaar
The main part of the bazaar in the old city of Jerusalem is located in the Muslim quarter, but in fact the complex and intricate alleys of the market intersect with other quarters such as the Jewish, Christian and Armenian.
When entering the bazaar of the old city, it is impossible not to notice and feel the incredible smells of oriental cuisine, an abundance of colorful and varied textiles, an endless number of souvenir shops and sounds emanating from various shops from Arab merchants.
No matter who you are, tourists or locals, moving around the old town will bring out incredible feelings and emotions in you.
Western Wall in Jerusalem - take a note and pen with you
The Western Wall is the western wall that once surrounded the courtyard of the Second Temple of Jerusalem.
This is the only wall that was not destroyed during the second destruction of the temple. By the way, this temple was built by King Herod.
The Western Wall (Wailing Wall) became a holy place for all generations and a symbol of identification with the temple, which was the center of religious life and the people of Israel.
It is a center of pilgrimage for Jews from all over the world, who come here to pray on any occasion, especially during Jewish holidays.
Do you know why this wall is called the Western Wall? After all, in Israel it is simply called the “Western Wall.”
The fact is that the significance of this wall for Jews living after the destruction of the Temple is that it is the only thing left of the Temple and therefore they come to it in order to mourn the destruction of the Temple.

You know, I am not a believer, but strangely enough, being near the wailing wall, you inadvertently begin to believe in miracles. Besides this, I have one personal story that proves this.

The Holy Sepulcher, or Holy Sepulcher, is the main shrine of the Christian world. After all, this is where Jesus Christ himself is buried.

The city of Nazareth (Natsrat) - the cradle of Christianity
There is no need to write much about this city. It is enough just to mention the fact that it was in this city that the Archangel Gabriel informed Mary about the conception from the Holy Spirit and that Jesus Christ spent his childhood and youth in Nazareth.
Accordingly, Nazareth became a popular place of pilgrimage for Christians.
Walking around Nazareth, you seem to be experiencing different stages of the city’s history and this is an indescribable feeling.
Tel Aviv - the city that never sleeps
In my opinion, the attraction of Tel Aviv is the fact that this city is fundamentally different from other cities in Israel. I wrote about this in the section on Jerusalem.
Even the Israelis recognize the fact that Tel Aviv is like a separate country within Israel and they call it the “Tel Aviv Bubble”
In simple words, if you are night revelers, lovers of discos, bars and gourmet restaurants, then here you will find your place and, moreover, you will be satisfied.
I have been living in Tel Aviv for 23 years and I really like this city for its emancipation, freedom of action, liberalism and of course the sea.
Jaffa (Jaffa) - ancient world overlooking the sea
Jaffa, or the correct name Jaffa, is one of the main ports of ancient Israel and one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world. It was here that ships carrying pilgrims headed to Jerusalem came.
By the way, at the beginning of the 20th century, Tel Aviv was founded as a suburb of Jaffa and until 1950 it became so upset and developed that in the same year Jaffa and Tel Aviv were united into one city municipality, which became known as Tel Aviv-Jaffa . In simple words, when people talk about Jaffa, they mean Tel Aviv and its surroundings.
The most important attraction of Jaffa is, of course, its old city. It is somewhat reminiscent of the old city of Jerusalem, only in a smaller size.
Personally, I really like to walk around old Jaffa in the evening. You simply must visit the old city of Jaffa in the evening to be impressed not only by the ancient buildings, churches and temples, but also to be enchanted by the compatibility of ancient architecture with the unique view of the Mediterranean coast. The Dead Sea is another wonder of the world
The Dead Sea (salt sea) is one of the saltiest bodies of water (lakes) on Earth. And this happened due to the fact that this lake does not have access to the sea. In simple words, it is an endorheic sea.
The salt concentration of the Dead Sea is ten times higher than that of the Mediterranean Sea.
The lake coast is the lowest landmass on Earth.
One of the unique advantages of the Dead Sea is the combination of a vibrant tourism environment, full of attractions and luxury with many healing properties.
In my opinion, the Dead Sea is one of the main attractions of Israel. I would call this sea a wonder of the world.
Every time I come to the Dead Sea, I just can’t get used to this unique natural phenomenon.
The concentration of salt in this lake is so high that when entering it, a person’s body is always on the surface of the water. Even if you really want to immerse your body in water, you will not be able to do this, since the salt will push it to the surface.
Since this article is a brief overview of the sights of Israel, now I will not talk in detail about this wonder of the world. But in the future I will definitely do this in great detail. And for one thing, we will happily visit this unique place again with the whole family.
Tiberias and the Sea of Galilee (Kinneret)
I combined the city of Tiberias and Lake Kinneret into one heading, since these two attractions of Israel are inseparable from each other. It's just that the city is adjacent to the western shore of the lake. Any person who comes to Tiberias cannot ignore the lake and vice versa
The Sea of Galilee, where Jesus himself swam
Lake Kinneret (Tiberias or Sea of Galilee) is the largest freshwater lake in Israel. The Sea of Galilee provides about 25% of Israel's water consumption and is one of the sources of drinking water and its main irrigation.
In the New Testament, this lake is associated with many stories about the earthly life of Jesus Christ himself. On the shores of the lake and in coastal cities, Jesus spent most of his earthly ministry.
Tiberias - the city of Caesar
On the western shore of the Sea of Galilee, in the 1st century BC, a city called Tiberias was founded. The city of Tiberias was named after the Roman Emperor Tiberius. This is where the name of the lake came from - Tiberias.
Tiberias is one of the four holy cities for Jews (Jerusalem, Hebron, Tiberias and Safed ) . The streets and alleys of the “Old Town” are narrow and winding, and the old houses made of black basalt give the panorama a special charm.
Among the attractions are the Greek Orthodox Church of the Twelve Apostles, the ruins of a synagogue (6th century) in the hot springs area, as well as the remains of the ancient Jewish city of Hamat Tver.
In fact, there are many historical sites in this ancient city. One article cannot describe everyone. Therefore, when arriving in Israel, I strongly advise you not to refuse an excursion to Tiberias and Kinneret.
Bahai Gardens
The Bahai Gardens in Haifa and Acre attract more than half a million visitors a year and are among the most popular tourist destinations in the Middle East.
The unique design combines geometric shapes while effectively preserving the values of landscape, nature and history that are imprinted on the heart of every visitor.
Many return here again and again to experience the changing seasons and relive the wonderful, peaceful and uplifting spirit of these special places.
In July 2008, the Baha'i Gardens in Haifa and Acre were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in recognition of their "outstanding universal value".
You won't believe it, but in 26 years of living in Israel, I still have not been to the Bahai Gardens.
Acre is one of the oldest cities and ports in the world and is over 4,000 years old. For many years, the city was the key to the occupation of the land of Israel, due to its location on the extended Mediterranean coast. Therefore, Acre was guarded more than other cities and became, to some extent, a fortress city.
By the way, the old city of Acre is also included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
You know, this city is so full of historical sights and ancient stories that for a review you will need not one article, but a full-fledged website.
In simple words, if you do not visit this unique city when arriving in Israel, you will regret it later.
Caesarea - resurrection of the Roman Empire
Caesarea is a port city founded in 13-25 BC. This city was the administrative center of the Roman Empire.
The city was named after the great Roman emperor Augustus Caesar. Today, part of the old town is a national park where every visitor can be impressed by the ancient Roman architecture and atmosphere of the past.
In this national park you can see such attractions as:
- The Imperial Theater, which was built during the time of King Herod and was active until the Byzantine period for centuries.
- Palace of King Herod, which was later used as the palace of the residence of Roman rulers.
- Temple of Augustus, which was appropriately named after the great Caesar.
- And of course the Hippodrome, which was also built in the days of King Herod.
Caesarea and its national park, in my opinion, is one of the must-see excursions in Israel. So don't ignore this place.
Eilat is the southernmost city in Israel and it is located on the Red Sea coast.
There are no historical sights of Eilat as such. Eilat is a relatively young and modern city. You may ask me: “Why then did I put this city on the list of attractions in Israel?” Quite a logical question
The fact is that Eilat is the resort capital of Israel and it attracts about 2.8 million tourists a year. Therefore, during the seasonal months, this city is filled to capacity with Israelis and foreign tourists.
All the attractions of Eilat are related to resort holidays, for example:
- Underwater observatory.
- Labyrinth of horror.
- Dolphin Reef.
- Attractions associated with extreme sports, for example: parachute jumping, etc.

In my opinion, the most worthy attraction of Eilat is the Red Sea.
The peculiarity of the Red Sea is that not a single river flows into it, and rivers usually carry silt and sand with them, significantly reducing the transparency of sea water. Therefore, the water in the Red Sea is crystal clear. Moreover, there are almost never waves in this sea.
There are several places of interest in the vicinity of Eilat, such as:
- Timna Botanical Garden and Park.
But I can’t say anything about these places, since I haven’t visited them yet. I hope that in the future I will definitely visit and share my impressions with you.
