Analysis of Akhmatva’s poem “Native Land”
After the revolution, Anna Akhmatova had quite a few opportunities to leave rebellious Russia and move to a well-fed, prosperous Europe. However, every time the poetess received such a proposal from relatives or friends, she felt a sense of annoyance. She could not understand how it was possible to live in another country, where everything seemed alien and incomprehensible. Therefore, back in 1917, she made her choice, declaring that she intended to share the fate of her own homeland.
The first post-revolutionary years turned into a real nightmare for Akhmatova. Having survived the arrest and execution of his ex-spouse Nikolai Gumilyov, as well as the loss of many friends who died in the camps, Akhmatova nevertheless refused to leave Russia. Here she survived the arrest of her own son, met her subsequent spouses and saw firsthand that an external enemy could unite the Russian people, turning even women, children and the elderly into courageous warriors.
Having survived the horrors of besieged Leningrad, hunger, mortal danger and even the threat of repression, in 1961 Anna Akhmatova wrote the poem “Native Land”, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. Indeed, by the 60s of the last century, the tradition of worshiping one’s native land was a thing of the past. However, Akhmatova was convinced that ethnic memory was alive in the soul of every person, which had been accumulated over many generations. Yes, people who are accustomed to working in the fields simply do not pay attention to the land, which takes so much strength from them. “For us, this is dirt on galoshes,” the poetess is convinced. Only a Russian person can describe a birch grove, a wheat field, a green forest, a fresh breeze in such a way that you immediately feel trembling excitement.
During the period of Soviet power, most Russian writers and poets could not come to terms with it. So a huge number of talents went to live abroad. This did not stop them from continuing to write about their homeland. Russia forever remained in the hearts of many of them. This love cannot be killed, it is in our blood. It seems to me that only our Motherland has a real, human soul. A Russian person can feel her kindness, love, generosity and sincerity.
I traveled abroad with my parents several times. We went to Greece, America, Romania. Beautiful countries, beautiful cities, there were a lot of impressions. But as soon as I got home, I felt how much I missed my land. No other can replace my homeland. You can travel around the world for the rest of your life, but a person will always be drawn home. And he will come back no matter what. Because his heart belongs to his homeland. Only with her can we find peace and tranquility; she is our mother and protector.

I think that the Motherland begins with such impressions, when you are surprised by the world and understand that the place where you were born is completely unique and inimitable. The connection with our native land and native land remains with us for the rest of our lives, and I believe that even if I go far, far away and settle down in life, I will still miss my Motherland and consider it best place all over the globe.
