Year, or how to read it correctly

There are several versions of reading the year, and all of them have the right to exist.

1967 – nineteen sixty-seven or nineteen hundred and sixty-seven(the latter version is quite common in the British press, but the first version is increasingly common).

You can find another reading option: one thousand nine hundred and sixty-seven.

If the last digits are 00 or 07, the year should be read as follows:

1900 – nineteen hundred

1907 – nineteen hundred oh seven

2000 – two thousand

2001 – two thousand and one

2009 – two thousand and nine

What to do with 2010? Even the British have differing opinions here. Those who adhere to the classical rules say two thousand and ten, but those who are always ready for new discoveries say twenty ten.

What to do with the word “year”? If you pronounce 2015 – two thousand and fifteen, then the word “year” does not need to be pronounced at the end of the phrase. You need to pronounce “year” before the year itself, i.e. year two thousand and fifteen or year twenty fifteen.

Remember that with the year the preposition “in” is used - in 2015, but if you name the month, you should remember that you need the preposition “on” - on May 2015. When specifying the exact date, you should say “ on May 25" or " on the twenty-fifth of May”.

Foreign and remember that according to statistics, one in six people speak English.
