Illumination of the ignition lock vaz 2106 do-it-yourself. Do-it-yourself ignition lock illumination: a detailed analysis. Materials and tools that are necessary in order to make the backlight of the VAZ ignition switch with your own hands

If you are tuning the interior of your car, then there is another interesting idea for you about creating LED illumination in your car. In our article, you will learn how to make the ignition switch backlight on a VAZ 2110 car. The main thing in this matter is to preserve the color scheme of the entire interior. If you make everything in the same color as the rest of the luminous elements of the interior, then the effect will be just fabulous. Let's look at all the possible options for installing this device on a car. The standard illumination of the castle is a light bulb of Ilyich, shining into the very larva of the castle. In appearance, the regular illumination of the car, well, nothing attracts attention, you can even say that it frightens the eye. The cheapest and easiest way to replace the lock illumination is to simply replace the standard light bulb with an LED, but this procedure will not bring the desired result. In addition, when replacing lamps, you will need to invest a lot of effort to do this job. There is another, more modern and beautiful option - to make the backlight in the form of a ring. If you want to make the highlight of the castle in the form of a ring, as on many foreign cars of our time, then use what is written here. For work we need:
1. LED strip - one piece (any color of your choice)
2. 1kΩ resistor - one piece
3. Super glue.
4. Soldering iron.
5. Tin.
6. Rosin.
7. Plexiglas (not thick).

So, let's get to work. To replace the backlight, we need to disassemble the entire steering column trim, and then remove the ignition switch. When the place for tuning is ready, we begin to prepare all the materials for work. First we need to solder a resistor to the LED strip, if one is not available, then you can use single LEDs (available in multiple lighters). Then we solder pieces of wire of different colors to the poles of the LEDs so that next time you can change them without the help of a soldering iron. Then we make a ring of plexiglass. Next, drill a hole in the ignition lock housing. The hole in the lock is needed in order to insert the LED strip into it. In the example, you will see that the 15 cm long LED strip can be easily placed inside the lock without creating any problems.

The LED strip is held inside the lock by the fact that the sides of the lock securely fix it. In order for the light coming from the LEDs to be diffused, you either need to slightly process the back of the ring, or remove the chamfer that is installed on the ignition switch.

If you don't have plexiglass available, you can make a ring using a regular jar lid, or use fiber optic wire. Fiber optics can be purchased at any store specializing in connecting the Internet. But still, in my opinion, plexiglass is the best option. Once the LEDs are in place, connect them to the power source and then assemble all the parts in reverse. Next, turn on the dimensions and enjoy. Everything is ready to use. Nothing was given for this work, 20 rubles, but what an effect.

Hello.)
"Who is on fire with the idea to make their dream come true" - please, my next FAQ.
Today we’ll take an example of how sometimes there’s nothing to do, you bother, get over your laziness and stir up something like that, everything just to be pleasing to the eye.)) You probably noticed that in our little car, namely in the castle ignition, there is a transparent ring that would glow well, with a certain amount of light on it! Exactly, - we stir up the backlight in the ignition switch.
A trifle, but nice. :-)

For this we need:
- Curly screwdriver (large)
- Diode 12V (preferably dissipative type)
- Soldering iron ≤ 40 W.
- Wiring (any section, because the current and voltage are minimal)
- Insulating tape + lighter (you can heat shrink)
- Stationery or ordinary knife (if necessary)
- "Straight arms" (we are dealing with plastic clips/latches)
- Patience (hard work)
- From an hour to 3 free time

Let's start perhaps.

We unscrew 5 bolts located under the torpedo of the steering column.

Actually, in our car, everything is thought out for the convenience of the user, well, almost.)) Yes, not everything is particularly embodied in reality ...

After the protective panels of the steering column have been loosened, we proceed to remove them. Remove the top panel first. We just gently pull it up, watching the release of the side latches.
P.S.: When you perform these actions, two fixing rings of the ignition lock will be released - external and internal. They will easily fall out, we remove them to the side, remembering their location before.

In order to remove the bottom panel, we need to work a little, quite a bit. To begin with, we need to recline the "rudder position change lever".
Attention! When installing this panel into place/back, do not push this lever into the place shown in the figure. It happens, for some reason, automatically. Remember its location immediately. There is nothing complicated here. :-)

Next, we release it from the ignition switch itself, as shown in the figure. Pull slightly to the right (1), then pull down (2). Then she will calmly free herself and be removed without difficulty.

Before us is the ignition lock itself in the "naked" form, where we saw something with a smile on our face. No, this is not something that one could think with a perverted fantasy.)) For us, the manufacturer himself ALREADY prepared a place for lighting the ignition switch. :-) It is shown in the picture. Almost like a plinth!

And so, as we already understand, the matter remains small. ;-) We need to install a light bulb here, or best of all - a 12V diode. Such as in dimensions. =)
P.S.: The choice of the diode is up to you. I had a pair of whites and one blue. The choice fell on blue, because the white ones did not shine very much. Yes, and the backlight in my legs is implemented in blue. :-)

And so, then we need to somehow attach the wiring to the diode, and best of all, solder it, for a more reliable fixation.

After we try on the diode in the "ignition lock base". Here is how it will look like:

If necessary, cut a larger hole in the "base" to install the diode. What I had to do to fix it.
P.S.: It would be nice to remove this "base" and do everything somewhere in a more convenient place than right here. But, trying to remove it, we, it seems to me, damage the copper winding of the key chip check (it is very clearly visible in the 5th figure of this post). It's not worth it to do this!!!

Note from the user "P.r.o.drive": “... And from the point of view of fire safety, the soldering should have been covered with a heat shrink, simply by putting it on the blue base of the diode. And then the lock case and bare soldering. It’s good if you connected a minus from the side that is closer to the metal, but what if it’s the other way around?”

Actually, here we have already installed the diode in our place intended by the manufacturer.
P.S.: It is not necessary to open the top/front cover of the "base". This is for clarity. But still, for greater certainty that the diode became even and did not hook anything - it's worth it. This is done simply:
1. From both ends of the "base" we pry with something sharp and fix this position with our fingers.
2. Slightly push back the "main ring of the ignition lock" and release the cover towards ourselves.
Everything is visible in the picture. She's just holding on to this ring. But this is all done at will, it is not necessary to do this.

Next, we are connecting the backlight. This is where our opinions and desires may differ. You can implement it in any way - from the key position in the ACC, from the timer power circuit, from the timer power circuit when the door is opened, and just when the door is opened, etc. I did it simply - by throwing it on the cigarette lighter, knowing that it turns on when the key is in ON, i.e. when power is supplied to the onboard peripherals of the car.
Although it was still worth implementing according to the 3rd option ... But I don’t have such a schematic. It takes a lot more sophisticated stuff to make it.

To implement the connection through the cigarette lighter, we need to remove the front panel of our auto console (everyone probably knows how it is removed and it will not be difficult to find it in the vastness of Runet. Therefore, we will not write about it for the 500th time, but in case of questions and your perseverance, I can either advise you or make a separate post on this topic).
There we have enough cigarette lighter wires to go to them.

After cutting off the casing (we just make a circumferential incision and tighten it to the terminal), on the wiring we see the cigarette lighter wires themselves. Accordingly, it is not difficult to figure out where is the minus and where is the plus.)) But the main thing in our business is the polarity of the diode! Let's not forget this, friends. He is very moody about this. Therefore, having thrown the wires, we immediately check its operation.
P.S.: As you can see, the polarity turned out to be reversed for me.)) It's okay.

Next, we isolate all this, burn it and move the protective cover back into place. :-)

Actually, that's all. =) We collect everything in reverse order, put everything in its place. =)
P.S.: Do not forget about the last two rings that were removed from the ignition switch at the beginning of our installation. They are placed at the end, but before tightening the bolts. :-)

Here is the result. It is hard to see it here, all the instructions were carried out exclusively on the camera of my old Nokia. But still ... "A trifle, but nice!" ^_^

I have been puzzling over why good thoughts and useful ideas go exclusively to the heads of foreign automakers and auto engineers for a long time ... For some reason, useful nuances are always emphasized in foreign cars, such as the backlight of the ignition switch, which make life easier for the driver and make driving more enjoyable and convenient. The proof of the foregoing is not only the backlight of the ignition switch, but also a rear-view camera, in general, there are a lot of pleasant little things in foreign cars that help to “live” and which our cars lack so much. Today, we will talk about the illumination of the ignition switch, or rather, how to make this beauty with your own hands from simple improvised materials.

I had a desire to correct the defect of the engineers a long time ago, and after a long time thinking about how best to implement the backlight, I settled on LEDs and plexiglass. The main thing in carrying out this kind of tuning was to preserve the color scheme, that is, to choose the LED of exactly the color that would fit into the backlight of the entire cabin.

After a bit of brainstorming and practicing with search engines, I chose the option for myself, which I will tell you in detail today. The backlight of the ignition switch in this particular design looks beautiful and almost does not differ from the original factory versions.

So, in order to make the backlight of the VAZ ignition lock, you will need:

  1. At least three LEDs (more if desired) or LED strip;
  2. Glue ("Superglue" or some kind of epoxy);
  3. 1kΩ resistor;
  4. Soldering iron (where would you be without it);
  5. Solder and rosin (tin);
  6. And of course plexiglass (medium thickness).

When everything you need is available, you can begin to bring your plan to life - do-it-yourself illumination of the ignition switch.

  1. First of all, completely disassemble the steering column trim.
  2. Remove the ignition switch.

Now it's time to make the ignition switch itself.

1. Solder the resistor to the LEDs first.

2. Solder two wires of different colors to the LED poles.

3. Make a ring of the required diameter from plexiglass.

4. Drill the required number of holes in its end to insert the LEDs. If the thickness of the plexiglass does not allow this, try fixing the LEDs in some other way, such as using glue.

5. If you have an LED strip, you can use it, then you don’t have to drill the ends of the plexiglass, it’s enough to drill a hole in the lock body so that the sides of the lock securely fix it.

6. Do not rush to install everything, try to achieve the most beautiful glow, the dispersion should be uniform, if necessary, process the back of the ring, or chamfer installed on the ignition switch.

7. Ignition light it is not done at once, so make sure that the plexiglass sits tightly and nothing hangs anywhere, it will be very disappointing if, after several days of operation, you have to disassemble for revision.

8. In principle, everything, it remains only to connect the backlight of the lock to the power supply and assemble everything in the reverse order.

That's all, the result, as you can see, is impressive, it remains to wait until dark and start using it. In general, it cost me less than fifty dollars, but it looks expensive and chic!

Surely you know that they are equipped with ignition switch illumination. This is a very handy feature that allows you to turn the ignition key without any problems even in the dark. Therefore, many drivers want to equip their car with lighting. This is especially true for owners. We know how to make the backlight of the ignition lock with your own hands.

Such a device is very convenient, although some seem useless. Of course, even in the evening you can easily get the key into the ignition if there is a salon light. But in fact, in many domestic cars, the light may not work. Therefore, the backlight plays an important role, especially for those cars in which an alarm system is installed with a delay in turning on the interior light after disarming. In addition, every time you open the door, you will feel like the owner of a foreign car.

LED illumination

The best option is to install LED illumination. At the same time, it is very important to preserve the color scheme in which the interior of the car is made. If you make the backlight in the same shade as the other luminous elements, the effect will be simply fabulous.

Of course, there is a standard backlight, which is an ordinary light bulb. Its glow is directed directly to the ignition lock cylinder. However, such a device is inconspicuous and does not look too aesthetically pleasing. The LED lighting looks much better. In fact, to create it, it is enough to simply replace a standard light bulb with an LED. However, such a replacement will not bring you the desired result. A more modern and attractive option is the backlight in the form of a ring. That is what we will teach you to do.

Those who do not know how to make the ignition switch backlight will be able to find the answer to this question in our article. We will tell you how to create such a device from improvised means. So, the first thing you need to go to the store for all the necessary components.

Necessary materials and tools

You will need the following accessories and tools:

  • LEDs (or LED strip) - 3 pieces or more;
  • epoxy or other instant adhesive;
  • soldering iron with all necessary accessories (rosin, solder, tin);
  • thin drill;
  • resistor (1 kOhm);
  • plexiglass.

Having bought everything you need, you can start work on installing the backlight. If you don't know Plexiglas, contact a company that sells advertising materials. As a rule, it is used to create billboards. The cost of plexiglass is about 200 rubles per kilogram.

The video shows how to connect the ignition switch backlight:

Instructions for creating backlight

First you need to completely disassemble the casing and remove the ignition switch. Using a soldering iron, attach the resistor to the LEDs. Next, you need to solder two wires to the corresponding poles of the LEDs.

Now take the plexiglass and cut out a round ring of the required diameter from it. Make a small hole in the center. Using a thin drill, make several holes in the end of the ring. LEDs will be installed in them. If the plexiglass is thin, we recommend fixing the LEDs using silicone or superglue.

If you use LED strip, you do not need to drill holes in the end of the plexiglass. It is enough to drill a small hole in the lock body. Then its sides will allow you to securely fix the tape.

After collecting all the details of the backlight, carefully check your device. Do not immediately put the lock in place. First, create and try to achieve . If necessary, make the back of the plexiglass frosted - this will achieve an even glow.

So that later you do not have to disassemble the structure again - first make sure that the backlight is working properly and the plexiglass does not hang out. After that, you only need to connect and insulate all the parts, and then assemble them in the reverse order. Since the backlight of the ignition switch should light up when the car doors are opened and go out after they are closed, it is necessary to connect it to the interior ceiling. Using the power of the ceiling, bring the backlight to where it is more convenient for you - for example, to the left pillar. The result - when and when the door is opened, the backlight lights up, and when the engine is turned on and the alarm is set, it goes out.

The video shows what the ignition switch looks like:

plastic bottle light ring

Let's look at another, more unusual way to create a highlight ring. The main item you will need is a plastic bottle with a wide neck (for juice or milk). On the neck of such a bottle there is a place where the cap is attached. We need a blank in the form of a ring with 2 sides of different diameters.

The original size of the ring is slightly smaller than the ignition lock cap, but this can be corrected. Take a beer bottle and put a protective ring from a plastic product on its neck. On its underside on the bottle, draw a circle. It will act as a border along which you want to expand the part.

Now cut off the neck of the plastic bottle. We will need it later. Heat the beer bottle evenly using a hair dryer or. We recommend that you protect your eyes with goggles. Then put a ring blank on the neck and move it to the drawn line. Use another plastic bottle for this, as the glass will be hot. Just string it on top, advancing the ring.

The plastic ring will heat up and stretch to the required size. Let it harden, because when exposed to high temperature, the material becomes plastic. Then it can be removed and slightly heated again - then it will easily sit on the ignition switch.

In principle, the backlight ring can also be made of other materials. For example, fiber optic wire is perfect. You can purchase it at a store that offers network equipment. Instead of plexiglass, you can also use a regular jar lid by cutting a ring out of it.

You will see for yourself that the illuminated ignition lock looks more attractive and respectable. In addition, it is very convenient. Now you will not need to look for the well by touch to turn the key in it. In addition, by making your own ignition lock ring, a decent amount of money. such a device costs several thousand rubles. And do-it-yourself lighting will cost you cheap and cheerful.

Please leave your comment on the article! We are interested in your opinion.

Most modern cars have this option. In addition to an eye-pleasing glow, it makes it easy to find the ignition switch in the dark, especially on those machines that have a programmed delay in turning on the interior lights after the alarm is turned off. Most domestic car models do not have this option, so their owners, who know how to handle a soldering iron and understand radio engineering, will find information about the manufacture of such a device useful.

Some owners simply purchase a lock with lighting already installed, which will incur purchase costs. Other drivers try to make the device themselves. Illumination of the ignition lock can have several different designs. The simplest version of the device is to use a low power car light bulb. As a disadvantage of such a device, the not very attractive appearance and one-sided lighting of the switch are noted.

The most widespread variants of devices using colored LEDs or LED strips.

When using LEDs, there can be several options for their application. Double-sided tape is used to glue them, separate light sources are installed or used in the form of a tape. Everyone should immediately be warned that the use of double-sided tape is the least expensive to manufacture, but also the least appropriate for use. You will often have to glue back the fallen off radio components. Therefore, other options for how do-it-yourself ignition lock illumination is made will be considered in more detail.

Using LED strip

Its use attracts drivers because there is no need to solder an additional resistor in the LED power circuit.

The most pleasant version of such a device will be when the backlight matches the color of the dashboard lighting of the car. If it is not possible to match the tape with this color, you will have to use separate LEDs. To determine the desired length of the tape, remove the ignition switch and measure its diameter. You may need 5 to 15 cm of tape.

Important! To avoid a short circuit during work, disconnect the battery.

Such a tape is cut with scissors according to special marks, so its length may be less or more than the required length. To connect the product, you will need a piece of thin flexible wire, preferably with conductors of different colors. This will make it easier to connect the "+" power supply to the tape. For soldering, a 25 W soldering iron is used so as not to damage the tape with lighting elements.

Now it remains to do one simple thing, this is to paste the tape in the right place, and the ignition switch illumination is ready for use. When choosing a place to install the tape, take into account the thickness of the plastic casing of the ignition switch. In some cases, an additional transparent plexiglass ring can be used. Connect the power from the interior lighting lamps when the doors are opened.

Application of LEDs

The illumination of the ignition lock has the most pleasant appearance when using separate lighting devices, this option is the most difficult to manufacture. Again, the color is selected based on the illumination of the instrument panel. Also in the radio store they purchase one resistor with a resistance of 1 kOhm and a piece of heat shrink tubing. You will need a small piece of transparent plexiglass with dimensions slightly larger than the diameter of the ignition lock. Its thickness should be greater than the diameter of the LED. You will also need a piece of thin stranded copper wire with strands of different colors.

To make the backlight, the lock will have to be dismantled. After that, measure its outer diameter, which will be the inner diameter of the plastic ring. Approximately 10 mm should be added for the external dimension, this will be enough to install the LEDs. The thickness of the ring depends on the dimensions of the selected parts. In the absence of a plate with the desired thickness, it can be glued from two sheets.

The dimensions of the ring are transferred to plastic, after which they begin to cut the ring. There are many ways to get a plastic ring. It can be cut with a jigsaw or a heated piece of nichrome wire can be used. It depends on the capabilities of the driver who undertook the manufacture of such a backlight. The made circle is carefully processed with fine sandpaper. In the ring you need to drill several holes for the LEDs. Their number can be from 3 or more. They are installed either in the plane of the ring, or in its end. You can make a hole with a drill with a diameter slightly larger than that of the lighting device.

When the holes are ready, the prepared parts are glued into them. It is desirable to install them in such a way that the conclusions of the "+" LEDs are directed in one direction. This will make it easier to connect them. The connection is made in parallel, that is, the “+” terminals are connected all together, and the rest are connected to another circuit. A resistor with a resistance of 1 kΩ is soldered to one of the terminals.

A flexible stranded conductor with different colors of conductors is connected to the free terminal of the resistor and the remaining contact of the LEDs. This will make it easier to properly connect the power to the backlight. What else remains to be done? It is necessary to assemble the lock and install it in place.

This is how the finished product looks like after the final assembly and installation of the lock in its regular place. Connect the lighting to the interior bulbs.
