In the tombs he gave life. Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death and giving life to those in the tombs

Why is the song “Christ is risen!” so sweet?

“Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and giving life to those in the tombs.”
This solemn song is now in the mouths of all of us. And in churches, and in homes, and in meetings, and in solitude, we sing it with sweetness, we repeat it, and we cannot get enough of it, chanting it.
But a person reflecting on his condition can say here: “If our death is trampled upon by Christ’s death, then why do we fear death and die? When we lie in the coffin, we are no longer death, but it tramples us underfoot.”
To resolve this doubt, so that it does not interfere with our real joy, it will be enough for us to know what kind of death God determined for our sinful forefather. How much has Christ, our Savior, who died and risen for us, diminished its power? And what is the remnant of her power over us worth?
The transgression of God's commandment by Adam was so serious that bodily death alone was not enough to punish this crime, but after it, according to the righteous and incorruptible judgment of God, came the death of the soul. Physical death consisted in the corruption of the body, mental death - in the corruption of the soul.
Physical death was also difficult for a person. The king and ruler of the universe, made “the least of the angels” (Ps. 8:6), earns bread by the sweat of his brow, and often, instead of bread, reaps thorns and thistles from the ground; fight all your life with illnesses, with misfortunes, with every misfortune, and finally turn into dust and decay, according to this immutable definition: “as you are earth, you will return to earth” (Gen. 3: 19) - truly, this is a difficult lot and sad!
But spiritual corruption for him was an incomparably greater punishment. A soul that has withdrawn from God is subject to much more severe suffering. Falls weaken it more than illnesses weaken our body. Puffed up with pride, she suffers more dangerously than the body from water sickness. Inflamed by frantic fornication, she hurts more desperately than the body from the fire. Seething with envy, hatred and enmity, it harbors within itself a most contagious poison, more deadly than the deadly plague. In a word, through her sins she became abominable before the eyes of God, with their stench striking the sense of smell of her Creator; and therefore she became rejected into a fire that never goes out. And this was the most terrible fear of death for sinners. If we were subject only to bodily death and corruption only of our flesh for our sins, then it would be more convenient to suffer such punishment.
What has the Son of God done for us? How did He trample upon our death, our so cruel tyrant? I answer: the Son of God took upon Himself our corruptible body, and with His sufferings He paid the righteous Court of God for our crimes, as the prophet foretold about this, saying: “The naked man was wounded for our sins and tormented for our iniquities” (Isa. 53:5) . Having thus paid for our sins, He freed us from eternal punishment and endless fire, and, moreover, in His immeasurable compassion, He made us sons of God and heirs of the Kingdom of Heaven (Rom. 8; 17). So, you never know how much power has diminished here over the sinners of greedy and insatiable death? Truly we must exclaim with the Apostle: “Where is the sting, O death? Where the hell is victory? (1 Cor. 15; 55). Where are your prisoners and victims?
True, we still have physical illness and suffering left to us; remained the lot of the tendency to sin, which are mental illnesses; Physical death itself and the fear of it remained as an inheritance. But what? These illnesses and sufferings for us, who believe in Christ, who died for us and rose again, are nothing more than the eradication of the evil of sin that remains in us and was precisely left so that we, struggling against sin, would become like Christ our Savior in suffering Him, in order to be awarded the crown of victory, honors and rewards prepared for those who “have fought the good fight...” (2 Tim. 4: 7-8). A natural son inherits from a father only by obedience to his will and by showing the likeness of his father in himself: all the more so for us, who have become sons of God and heirs of His Kingdom, must certainly become like the Son of God, who adopted us as God, in sufferings and deeds. against sins.

The holiday of the Resurrection of Christ is called Easter after the Old Testament holiday established in memory of the deliverance of the Jews from Egyptian slavery. In accordance with the event of the Resurrection of Christ, remembered on this holiday, the name Easter in the Christian Church received a special meaning and began to mean the transition from death to life, from earth to heaven. “The word Easter,” says Saint Ambrose of Milan, “means passing. This holiday, the most solemn of holidays, was named so in the Old Testament Church - in memory of the exodus of the sons of Israel from Egypt and at the same time their deliverance from slavery, and in the New Testament Church - in a sign that the Son of God Himself, through the Resurrection from the dead, came from this world to the Heavenly Father, from earth to heaven, freeing us from eternal death and the works of the enemy and giving us “the power to be children of God” (John 1:12) ".

In the series of the Lord's holidays, the Easter holiday occupies a central place, and in the series of all Christian holidays, it “exceeds all celebrations, even those of Christ and those celebrated in honor of Christ, as much as the sun surpasses the stars.”

All services and church rituals of this holiday are especially solemn and imbued with one feeling of joy about the Risen One.

Long before midnight, believers in bright, festive clothes flock to the temple and reverently await the upcoming Easter Celebration. The clergy are clothed in all the most holy dignity. Just before midnight, a solemn bell announces the onset of the great minute of the Luminous Feast of the Resurrection of Christ. The priests with the cross, lamps and incense come from the altar and together with the people, like the myrrh-bearers who went to the grave in the morning, go around the circle of the church singing “Thy Resurrection, O Christ the Savior, the angels are singing in heaven, and make us on earth worthy of You with a pure heart.” glorify". At this time, from the height of the bell tower, as if from heaven, the jubilant Easter peal is pouring. All worshipers walk with lit candles, thereby expressing the spiritual joy of the Luminous Holiday.

The procession stops at the closed western gates of the temple, as if at the doors of the tomb of Christ. And here, according to the usual cry, the priest, like the Angel who announced to the myrrh-bearers at the tomb about the Resurrection of Christ, is the first to proclaim a joyful song: “Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and giving life to those in the tombs.” This song is repeated three times by the clergy and the choir.

Then the primate proclaims the verses of the ancient prophecy of the holy King David: “May God rise again and let his enemies be scattered...”, and all the people (choir) in response to each verse sing: “Christ is risen from the dead...”

Finally, the primate, holding a cross with a three-branched candlestick in his hands, with their movement draws the sign of the cross against the closed doors of the temple, they open, and the jubilant host, like the myrrh-bearers once to the apostles, enters the church, flooded with the light of all the lamps and lamps, and resounds with the song: “ Christ is risen from the dead!"

The subsequent service of Easter Matins consists of the singing of the canon composed by St. John of Damascus. The songs of this canon are separated by multiple “Christ is risen from the dead!” During the singing of the canon, the clergy with a cross and censer, preceded by lamps, go around the entire church, filling it with femiam, and joyfully greet everyone with the words: “Christ is Risen,” to which the believers joyfully answer: “Truly He is Risen!” The repeated departures of the clergy from the altar remind us of the frequent appearances of the Lord to His disciples after the resurrection.

At the end of Matins, after singing: “Let us embrace each other, saying: brethren! And we will forgive all those who hate us through the resurrection” - all believers begin to greet each other. The joyful Easter greeting reminds us of the state of the apostles in which, when the news of the Resurrection of Christ suddenly broke, they said to each other with amazement and delight: “Christ is risen!” and answered: “Truly he is risen!” Mutual kissing is an expression of love and reconciliation with each other, in memory of our universal forgiveness and reconciliation with God through the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Then the word of John Chrysostom is read.

After Matins, the Hours and Liturgy are immediately performed, with the Royal Doors open, which are open from the beginning of Matins and are not closed for a whole week as a sign that Jesus Christ has forever opened the gates of the Heavenly Kingdom for us. At the Liturgy, the first beginning of the Gospel of John the Theologian is read, beginning with the words “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God...”, which depicts the Divinity of our Redeemer. If the Liturgy is celebrated by a council of priests, then the Gospel is read in different languages, as a sign that a message about the Lord has gone out to all peoples on earth.

Special Easter rituals include the blessing of the artos, “in honor and glory and remembrance of the glorious Resurrection” of our Lord Jesus Christ. The name artos means a prosphora with an image of a cross crowned with thorns on it, as a sign of Christ’s victory over death, or with an image of the Resurrection of Christ. The word "artos" is Greek; Translated into Russian it means “bread”. The historical origin of artos is as follows.

The apostles, accustomed to eating a meal with the Risen Lord, after His Ascension into heaven, remembering His cherished words: “I am with you all the days,” felt with a living faith the invisible presence of the Lord in their meetings. When starting the meal, they left unoccupied the place where Jesus Christ reclined with them, and on the table opposite that place they placed, as if for Him, a piece of bread, and each time at the end of the meal, giving thanks to God, they raised this piece of bread, saying: “Christ is risen.” When later the disciples of Jesus Christ went to different countries to preach the Gospel, they, if possible, tried to observe this custom: each of the holy apostles, no matter what country he was in, in the new society of followers of Christ, starting a meal, left a place and part of the bread in honor of the Savior, and at the end of the meal, together with them, he glorified the Risen Lord, raising part of the bread laid in memory of Him. This is how this custom was preserved in the Church and, after a number of centuries, has reached our time. The artos, placed on Holy Pascha in the church before the eyes of the believers, should serve as a reminder of the invisible presence of the Risen Lord with us.

At the same time, artos reminds that Jesus Christ, by death on the cross and resurrection, became the true bread of animals. This meaning of artos is revealed in the prayer for its consecration. In addition, in this prayer, the priest, invoking God’s blessing on the consecrated artos, asks the Lord to heal every ailment and illness and give health to all who partake of the artos.

Hymns from the Easter Service

Having seen the Resurrection of Christ, let us worship the Holy Lord Jesus, the only sinless one. We worship Your Cross, O Christ, and we sing and glorify Your Holy Resurrection: for You are our God, do we know no other than You, we call Your name. Come, all faithful, let us worship the Holy Resurrection of Christ: behold, through the Cross joy has come to the whole world. Always blessing the Lord, we sing His Resurrection: having endured the crucifixion, destroy death by death.

Jesus rose from the grave, as He prophesied, to give us eternal life and great mercy.

Holiday chant

Let the heavens rejoice worthily, let the earth rejoice, let the world celebrate, all visible and invisible, Christ has risen, eternal joy.

“Heaven, as it should, rejoice; let the earth rejoice; rejoice, and the whole world, visible and invisible; for Christ has risen, the eternal joy of all.”

Troparion

Easter seemed sacred to us; Easter is new, holy; Easter is mysterious; All-honorable Easter; Easter Christ the Deliverer; Easter is immaculate; Easter is great; Easter of the faithful; Easter opens the doors of heaven to us; Easter illuminating everything for the faithful.

Stichera

Shine, shine, new Jerusalem, for the glory of the Lord is upon you. Rejoice now, and rejoice in Zion. You, Pure One, show off, O Mother of God, about the rising of Your Nativity.

“Enlighten yourself, enlighten yourself, O new Jerusalem; for the glory of the Lord has shone upon you; rejoice now and rejoice, O Zion! And You, Most Pure Mother of God, be glorified through the resurrection of the One born of You.”

Irmos

Even though you descended into the grave, Immortal, you destroyed the power of hell, and you rose again as the Victor, Christ God, telling the myrrh-bearing women: Rejoice! And by Your Apostle grant peace, grant resurrection to the fallen.

“Although You, Savior, descended into the grave, You destroyed the power of hell, and rose again, O Christ God, as the Victor, saying to the myrrh-bearing women: Rejoice! And giving peace to Your Apostles, giving resurrection to the fallen.”

Gospel of John

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. It was in the beginning with God. Everything came into being through Him, and without Him nothing came into being that came into being. In Him was life, and life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness does not overcome it.

There was a man sent from God; his name is John. He came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that through him all might believe. He was not light, but was sent to testify to the Light.

There was the true Light, which enlightens every person coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world came into being through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to his own, and his own did not receive Him. And to those who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the power to become children of God, who were born neither of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of a man, but of God.

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten of the Father. John testifies of Him and, exclaiming, says: This was He of whom I said that He who came after me stood before me, because He was before me. And from His fullness we have all received grace upon grace, for the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God; The Only Begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has revealed.

About Holy Easter

Now is the salvation of the world - the visible and invisible world. Christ rose from the dead; arise with Him also; Christ in His glory, you also ascend; Christ from the grave - free yourself from the bonds of sin; the gates of hell are opened, death is destroyed, the old Adam is laid aside, a new one is created. Easter, Lord's Easter! And I will also say in honor of the Trinity: Easter! She is our holiday celebration and celebration of celebrations; as much surpasses all celebrations, even those of Christ and those performed in honor of Christ, as the sun surpasses the stars.

Saint Gregory the Theologian

Today, by the Resurrection of Christ, the underworld is opened, the earth is renewed by the baptism of the catechumens, the heavens are opened by the Holy Spirit. The open underworld brings back the dead, the renewed earth produces those who are resurrected, the open sky receives those who ascend. The underworld returns prisoners to what is above, the earth sends those buried to heaven, and heaven presents those received by them to the Lord.

Saint Ambrose of Milan

Wisdom said that on the day of joy, disaster is forgotten. The present day makes us forget the first sentence pronounced on us. Then we fell from heaven to earth: now the Heavenly One has made us heavenly. Then death reigned through sin: now life has again received dominion through righteousness. Then alone opened the entrance of death: and now alone life is brought in again. Then through death we fell away from life: now death is abolished by life. Then they hid themselves under the fig tree in shame: now they have approached the tree of life in glory. Then we were expelled from paradise for disobedience; now we are introduced into paradise for our faith. What should we do after this? What else but to leap up like thunder and the hills, which the prophet announced, saying: the mountains leaped up like rams, and the hills like sheep lambs. So come, let us rejoice in the Lord! He crushed the power of the enemy and set up for us the victorious sign of the cross, defeating the enemy. Let us exclaim with a voice of joy, as victors usually exclaim over the corpses of the vanquished.

Saint Gregory of Nyssa

The longed-for, saving holiday has come for us, the day of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. This holiday is a guarantee of peace, a source of reconciliation, the extermination of enemies, the destruction of death, the destruction of the devil. Today people have united with the Angels, and those clothed with flesh, together with the incorporeal Forces, offer songs of praise to God. Today the Lord has broken down the gates of hell and destroyed the very face of death. But what am I saying, the face of death? Even the very name of death has changed: it is now called not death, but tranquility and sleep.

Saint John Chrysostom

Easter is a worldwide and greatest holiday... For the Resurrection of Christ radically changed the earth, and hell, and Heaven... The Risen Lord sent the Holy Spirit to earth and sanctified the Church of Christ on earth - the pillar and affirmation of the Truth that will be on earth until the end of the age, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it... The soul of the Lord descended into hell after His death, crushed hell and was resurrected... The Risen Christ ascended to heaven and founded the Church there, into which the souls of all the righteous entered and continue to enter... The Church united Heaven and earth. We have one Church - earthly and heavenly. The Lord has done everything for us, let us not be traitors and murderers of ourselves. Let us purify and sanctify our souls in the sacraments of the Holy Church.

Saint Macarius, Metropolitan of Moscow

Word of Saint John Chrysostom on the day of Holy Easter

If anyone is pious and loves God, let him enjoy this bright celebration. If anyone is a prudent servant, let him be filled with the joy of his Lord. If anyone is tired of fasting, let him now accept his reward. If anyone has worked from the first hour, let him now receive his due reward. If anyone appears after the sixth hour, let him not doubt, because he has nothing to lose. If anyone has delayed until the ninth hour, let him appear without any fear. If anyone has come only at the eleventh hour, let him not be afraid of delay, since the generous Lord accepts the latter equally with the former; gives rest at the eleventh hour to those who come, as well as to those who worked from the first hour; He has mercy on the last and takes care of the first; he pays to him and gives to him; and he appreciates the deed and praises the disposition. Therefore, all of you, enter into the joy of our Lord: both first and second, you will receive a reward, rich and poor, rejoice with each other. Honor the abstinent and careless people! Those who have fasted and those who have not fasted, rejoice today! The meal is full of food! Enjoy everyone! Taurus is huge: let no one leave hungry! Everyone, enjoy the wealth of goodness! Let no one cry from poverty, because the common kingdom has appeared! Let no one mourn for sins: forgiveness has risen from the grave! Let no one fear death, because the death of the Savior freed us! He who was captured by her trampled on her, who descended into hell, he captured hell, he grieved it, who tasted of His flesh. Isaiah foresaw this when he cried: hell, speaks, be upset(Isa. 14:9). Having met You in the underworld, he was upset because he was defeated, upset because he was ridiculed. He took the body, but found God, took the earth, but met the sky, took what he saw, but attacked what he did not see. Death! where is your sting? hell! where is your victory?(1 Cor. 15:55) Christ is risen, and you are cast down! Christ has risen and the demons have fallen! Christ has risen and the Angels rejoice! Christ has risen, and there is not a single dead person in the tomb! Christ, raised from the dead, became the firstfruits of those who died. To him be glory and power forever and ever. Amen.

The Descent of Christ into Hell. Icon, XIII century. Monastery of St. Catherine in Sinai

Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and giving life to those in the tombs(Three times).

Having seen the Resurrection of Christ, let us worship the Holy Lord Jesus, the One Sinless One. We worship Your Cross, O Christ, and we sing and glorify Your holy Resurrection: for You are our God, do we know no other to You, we call Your name. Come, all the faithful, let us worship the holy Resurrection of Christ: behold, through the Cross joy has come to the whole world. Always blessing the Lord, we sing His Resurrection: having endured the crucifixion, destroy death by death.

Is it for you?- except you. Se bo will come- for behold, she has come.

Do we not know otherwise to You, we call Your name...- the words of the Holy Scripture: Lord, don’t You know anything else; We call Your name (Is. 26:13; see also the 5th hymn of the canon for Communion).

We sing and glorify Your Resurrection: For You are our God, do we know no other to You, we call Your name...

"This expresses the feeling of perfect peace in the Savior. And how natural it is, especially now. In the risen Jesus Christ, man - the poorest stranger on earth - is delivered from sin, hell, death, the devil, adopted by God, honored by the deification of his nature... If the curse is destroyed and sin, if death is trampled upon, if hell is destroyed and the head of the ancient enemy is erased, then what else is there to fear? If so much power has been revealed, will the Lord after this reduce His beneficent right hand?

Ipakoi, voice 4th

Having anticipated the morning about Mary, and having found the stone rolled away from the tomb, I hear from the Angel: in the light of the ever-present Being, with the dead, why are you looking for a man? You see the grave clothes; preach to the world that the Lord has arisen, the one who puts death to death, as he is the Son of God, saving the human race.

Preceding the morning- arrived before dawn. Even about Maria– those who were with Mary (Mary’s companions). I hear you– heard. Tetsite- run, hurry. Preach- announce. Yako there is- because He.

“In the Easter Canon we hear the voice of the Angel to the myrrh-bearing women: Preach to the world that the Lord has arisen, who has put death to death. The voice of the Angel in relation to us means: live so that your whole life is one word: “Christ is risen!” and so that, looking at you, the whole world, both Christian and non-Christian, would say: truly Christ is risen, because apparently he lives in one or the other, apparently powers work in Him. Is it still necessary to explain that the basis of such a life is zeal for glory. the Risen Lord through imitation of Him and assimilation of the power of His resurrection."

Saint Theophan the Recluse

Kontakion, tone 8

Even though you descended into the grave, Immortal, you destroyed the power of hell, and you rose again as the Conqueror, Christ God, saying to the myrrh-bearing women: Rejoice, and grant peace to your apostles, grant resurrection to the fallen.

More- Although. Thingsy- said.

Also the troparia, the same voice:

In the tomb carnally, in hell with the soul like God, in heaven with the thief, and on the Throne you were, Christ, with the Father and the Spirit, fulfilling everything, the Indescribable.

Do everything- fulfilling everything with Himself. Undescribed- unspeakable (indescribable).

The troparion in the briefest words gives a striking image of the fullness of the Divinity - Christ, inseparably abiding with the Father and the Spirit, rests body in the tomb, descends with his soul into hell and destroys the souls of the righteous, and according to His untrue words to the thief, now dwells with him in paradise (Lk .23:43) – and, filling everything with Himself, brings the Universe to completeness, fulfills the work of salvation.

The Apostle Paul, citing a verse of the psalm, says: It is said: He entered on high, took captivity captive and gave gifts to men (Ps. 67:19). And what does “ascended” mean, if not that He had previously descended into the nether regions of the earth? He who was lowest was also He who ascended above all the heavens to fulfill all things (Eph. 4:8-10).

Like the Life-Bearer, like the reddest of Paradise, truly the brightest of all royal palaces, Christ, Thy tomb, the source of our resurrection.

Highly sanctified Divine village, rejoice, for You have given joy to the Mother of God, calling: blessed art Thou among women, All-Immaculate Lady.

Reddest- most beautiful. Vyshnyago- The Almighty. Settlement- home.

Like the Life-Bearer, like the reddest of Paradise... The Tomb of Christ appears before us as the bearer of Life (Life-Bearer), more beautiful than paradise, sparkling more than any royal palace! (Please note: the subject in this sentence - what is being spoken about - is precisely the tomb of Christ, “Christ” is an address, we are talking to Christ about His tomb)

Lord have mercy(40 times).

We magnify You, the most honorable Cherub and the most glorious without comparison Seraphim, who gave birth to God the Word without corruption.

Christ rose from the dead, trampling down death by death, and giving life to those in the tombs(Three times).

During the days of Easter week and even until the celebration of Easter, before the meal, the troparion of Easter is sung (or read), and after the meal, the troparion of Easter is sung (or read).

Zadostoynik (chorus and irmos of the 9th song of the Easter Canon):

The angel cried out with grace: Pure Virgin, rejoice! And again the river: Rejoice! Your Son was risen three days from the grave, and raised up the dead; people, have fun.

Shine, shine, new Jerusalem, for the glory of the Lord is upon you. Rejoice now and be glad, O Zion; You, Pure One, show off, O Mother of God, about the rising of Your Nativity.

Screaming- he exclaimed. Pack the river - I will repeat. Show off- rejoice, enjoy. Your Christmas- Born of You.

The new Jerusalem is shining, shining... By new Jerusalem we mean the New Testament Church of Christ. Rejoice now and be glad, O Zion... Under Zion (the mountain on the southern side of Jerusalem, where the house of King David was, and subsequently the upper room of the Last Supper, and the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles) in the New Testament, according to the interpretation of Blessed Jerome, are the saints: they , standing at the pinnacle of virtues, they form Zion, about which it is said: Its foundation is on the mountains of the saints. The Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the villages of Jacob (Ps. 87:2).

Prayer of St. Ephraim the Syrian

This prayer is read in church on Wednesday and Friday of Cheese Week and throughout Holy Pentecost, except Saturdays and Sundays (if you strictly follow the charter, it is also read on some days of other multi-day fasts). During Great Lent (during the week), it should certainly be included in your cell rule; most naturally - at the end of morning and evening prayers, and, if possible, in the middle of the day.

Lord and Master of my life, do not give me the spirit of idleness, despondency, covetousness and idle talk.(Bow to the ground).

Grant me the spirit of chastity, humility, patience and love to Your servant(Bow to the ground).

To her, Lord the King, grant me to see my sins and not to condemn my brother, for blessed are you forever and ever, amen (Bow to the ground).

My belly- my life. Lustful beginnings- lust for power, love of ruling over people. See- see.

God, cleanse me, a sinner(12 times and the same number of small – waist – bows.)

And then the whole prayer: Lord and Master of my life...(and one prostration at the end.)

Prayers for Easter: Christ is risen, for good luck, health and for marriage with texts. Conspiracies for Easter 2017

The great Christian holiday Easter is celebrated in 2017 on April 16. The celebration and holiday week are preceded by Lent, which lasts forty days. They say that only believers who follow all the rules of fasting, limiting themselves not only in food, but also in bodily pleasures, can fully understand what the Easter prayer is, and fully feel the meaning of every word. The essence of the holiday is conveyed in a short prayer from the Troparion “Christ is Risen.” Jesus was born outside of sin, he lived sinlessly, died taking upon himself the sins of all mankind, and was resurrected to establish the triumph of life and sinlessness over death and sin. On Easter, many prayers are read - about health, luck, marriage. There are also known spells for Easter that help with various diseases, attracting beauty and wealth, happiness and prosperity.

Orthodox prayer for Easter - Christ has risen from the dead

The Orthodox prayer for Easter, “Christ has risen from the dead,” explains the essence of the holiday itself. This joyful chant from the Troparion of Easter is constantly read at all services in churches. People in Orthodox families who are unable to go to church due to illness or the distant location of the temple can read this prayer at home.

The essence of the prayer “Christ is Risen” for Easter

The essence of the prayer “Christ is risen” and the Troparion of Easter is explained as follows. Evil is never defeated by evil, however, Jesus Christ, by his death, destroyed the idea of death as the final end of all living things. Having risen from the dead, he proved that with physical death the soul does not die - it is eternal. Believers who follow the teachings of Christ repeat the text of the prayer after the priests and strengthen their faith in eternal life. Having resurrected, Jesus made it clear to everyone that believers will also be resurrected in Christ. By His death and resurrection, Jesus gave hope to humanity for the continuation of eternal life.

Christ rose from the dead, trampling down death by death, and giving life to those in the tombs.

Having seen the Resurrection of Christ (three times), let us worship the holy Lord Jesus, the only sinless one. We worship Thy Cross, O Christ, and we sing and glorify Thy holy resurrection: for Thou art our God, do we know no other to Thee, we call Thy name. Come, all faithful, let us worship the holy resurrection of Christ: behold, joy has come through the Cross to the whole world. Always blessing the Lord, we sing of His resurrection: having endured crucifixion, destroy death by death. (Thrice)

Having anticipated the morning of Mary, and having found the stone rolled away from the tomb, I hear from the angel: in the light of the ever-present Being, with the dead, why do you seek as a man? You see the graveclothes, preach to the world that the Lord has risen, the slayer of death, as the Son of God, saving the human race.

Even though you descended into the grave, Immortal, you destroyed the power of hell, and you rose again as a conqueror, Christ God, saying to the myrrh-bearing women: Rejoice, and grant peace to your apostles, grant resurrection to the fallen.

In the tomb carnally, in hell with the soul like God, in heaven with the thief, and on the throne you were, Christ, with the Father and the Spirit, fulfilling everything, the Indescribable.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit

Like the life-bearer, like the reddest of paradise, truly the brightest of all royal palaces, Christ, your tomb, the source of our resurrection.

And now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Highly sanctified Divine village, rejoice: for you have given joy, O Theotokos, to those who call: blessed art thou among women, all-immaculate Lady.

Lord have mercy. (40 times)

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages, Amen.

We magnify You, the most honorable cherub and the most glorious seraphim without comparison, who gave birth to God the Word without corruption.

Bless in the name of the Lord, father.

Priest: Through the prayers of the saints, our fathers, Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us. Amen.

Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death and giving life to those in the tombs (Thrice)

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages, Amen. Lord have mercy. (Thrice)

Prayer for Easter for health

In Orthodoxy, prayer is considered the most powerful amulet and protector of man. When turning to God in prayer, a believer knows that the Lord always hears him. Evidence of the power of prayer for health was the healing of the infirm by Christ, and numerous contemporary testimonies of believers who saw with their own eyes how a cripple or sick person was healed by the power of the word of the Lord.

Texts of Easter prayers for health

The prayer for health on Easter is always said with special reverence. It is believed that during Easter week God becomes “closer”, hearing every word of the person praying. The texts of prayers can be different - even freely pronouncing your own requests is allowed. However, the prayer for cure from illnesses, for healing, called “From three deaths,” is more powerful than others. They say that anyone who reads it before Easter will avoid mortal danger.

Easter prayer for healing - “From three deaths”

“In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Now and forever and endlessly. Amen. Under Tsar Manuel Komnenos. At his golden laurel, Saint Luke of Christ served the Lord Bot. On the eve of Easter, the saint, in the golden laurel. Hodegetria, the Mother of God, appeared to two blind men. She led them to the Blachernae Temple.

Angels, cherubim, seraphim sang, The blind before Mother Hodegetria received their sight. The holy Ruts wrote this prayer. All 40 saints blessed her. Truly!

The Lord Himself said: “Whoever reads this prayer before Easter will, with its help, escape from three deaths.”

Now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen".

Prayer for Easter

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Mother Mary carried Christ,

She gave birth, baptized, fed, gave water,

She taught prayers, saved, protected,

And then at the Cross she sobbed, shed tears, wailed,

She suffered together with her dear Son.

Jesus Christ rose again on Sunday,

From now on His glory will be from earth to heaven.

Now he himself, his slaves, takes care of us,

He graciously accepts our prayers.

Lord, hear me, save me, protect me

Prayer for Easter

From all troubles now and forever.

Now and ever and unto ages of ages.

Prayer for Easter for good luck in business

The power of Orthodox prayer is “hidden” in the strength of your desire, in the energy message, the power of your thought. It is not without reason that common prayers said in all churches at the same time work wonders. The more faith a praying person has, the more certain the result will be. When praying for good luck on Easter, you can turn to the guardian angel, Jesus, angels, and the saints.

Texts of prayers for good luck in business - How to pray for Easter

On Easter it is customary to pray for health, well-being in the family, recovery, and good luck in travel. A prayer whose purpose is to attract money is never in first place among Easter prayers. You can ask the Lord for help in financial matters only because of the greatest need. If you are expecting good luck at work, ask Saint Tryphon for help. You will find the texts of prayers for Easter on this page.

Holy Martyr Tryphon, our quick helper. Be my helper, protector of the evil spirits and leader to the Kingdom of Heaven. Pray to the Almighty that he will give me the joy of work, that he will always be near me and fulfill my plans.

The Lord is my shepherd. I will not need anything: He makes me rest in rich pastures and leads me to calm waters, strengthens my soul, guides me on the paths of righteousness. If I walk in the idol of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, because You are fearful. You have prepared a table before me in view of my enemies, you have anointed my head with oil, my cup is overflowing. Thus, Your goodness and mercy will accompany me throughout the days of my life, and I will remain in the house of the Lord many days. Amen.

Prayer for marriage on Easter

In Orthodoxy, marriage is considered the duty and happiness of every girl. Only a married woman can know the happiness of motherhood, give life to another person, and continue the human race. What to do if time passes and the girl remains unmarried? Orthodox prayer will help here.

Text of Easter prayer for marriage

In order to enter into a strong, unbreakable marriage “in heaven,” a girl must pray on Easter for marriage. The text of such a prayer says that the girl completely trusts her destiny to God, asking him to fill her heart with love. An unmarried girl asks the Lord to keep her chaste until the moment when a worthy groom, her future husband, is found. She asks Jesus not to leave her alone and to give her a faithful life partner, to give her a strong marriage and healthy offspring. In turn, the unmarried girl promises the Lord to be a hardworking housewife, a kind and loving mother, and a devoted wife.

A girl's prayer for marriage

Oh, All-Good Lord, I know that my great happiness depends on the fact that I love You with all my soul and with all my heart, and that I fulfill Your holy will in everything.

Rule Yourself, O my God, over my soul and fill my heart: I want to please You Alone, for You are the Creator and my God.

Save me from pride and self-love: let reason, modesty and chastity adorn me.

Idleness is disgusting to You and gives rise to vices, give me the desire to work hard and bless my labors.

Since Your Law commands people to live in an honest marriage, then lead me, Holy Father, to this title, sanctified by You, not to please my lust, but to fulfill Your destiny, for You Yourself said: it is not good for man to be alone and, having created He gave him a wife to help him, blessed them to grow, multiply and populate the earth.

Hear my humble prayer, sent to You from the depths of a girl’s heart; give me an honest and pious spouse, so that in love with him and in harmony we glorify You, the merciful God: the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Holy Great Martyr Catherine

O Saint Catherine, virgin and martyr, true bride of Christ! We pray to you, for you have received the special grace that your Bridegroom, Sweet Jesus, has preceded you to: just as you have put to shame the temptations of the tormentor with your wisdom, you have overcome fifty revolutions, and having given them heavenly teaching, you have guided them to the light of the true faith, so ask us for this Godly wisdom, Yes, and we, having broken all the machinations of the hellish tormentor, having despised the temptations of the world and the flesh, will be worthy to appear of Divine glory, and for the expansion of our holy Orthodox faith we will become worthy vessels, and with you in the heavenly tabernacle of our Lord and Master Jesus Christ with the Father and the Holy Spirit Let us praise and glorify to all ages of ages. Amen.

To the Righteous Philaret the Merciful

Troparion, tone 4:

Imitating Abraham in faith and following Job in patience, Father Philaret, you shared the good things of the land with the poor and you endured their deprivation courageously. For this reason, the Hero of God, Christ our God, has crowned you with a bright crown, and pray to Him for the salvation of our souls.

Truly, your all-inclusive purchase is visible and wisely, it is judged by all the wise: for you have given what is long and short-lived, seeking what is above and eternal. Thus and worthily have you gained eternal glory, merciful Philaret.

Stichera, voice 2:

You are from God, says the Theologian, and you are from God, merciful to Philaret. Just as there is God, so is your work, the hedgehog of good deeds, His by nature, and yours by communion.

Easter spells for health and good luck

It is believed that conspiracies pronounced during Holy Week and during Easter week have the most powerful power. The Orthodox Church does not welcome the fascination with Easter conspiracies, but allows their utterance in case of emergency. For example, there are conspiracies that, when pronounced on Easter, help heal even seriously ill people. For each disease there are special conspiracies, the texts of which are passed down from generation to generation.

Texts of Easter spells - Rituals for health and help against illnesses

Many conspiracies pronounced during Easter and Holy Week have powerful healing powers. When pronouncing their texts, you need to perform various rituals, examples of which you will find on this page. For example, if you want to cure bone pain, you should buy soap at the beginning of Holy Week, its first day. When paying for a purchase, you should leave the change to the seller and not thank him. When pronouncing Easter spells, you can use willow branches blessed on Palm Sunday. To do this, you need to touch the patient with twigs and pronounce the words of the conspiracy. The willow buds and branches themselves will fall at this time, otherwise you yourself may get sick. You can also charm diseases with a painted Easter egg. At the same time, they roll the testicle over the patient, pronouncing words about the resurrection of Christ. Such a conspiracy is pronounced thirty-three times. To help a seriously ill person, you need to come to church with a blessed colored egg and ask the priest to share Christ with you. After this, you should approach the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos and ask for healing of the “bar of God” who is suffering from an illness. To attract wealth and good luck, on the third day of the holiday you need to be the first to come to the temple and light a candle at the crucifixion of Christ. When pronouncing the words of the conspiracy, you need to cross yourself.

Spell for bone pain

“Like soap from my hands the Water of God washes away,

So let all the illness

It is disappearing from my body.

Key, lock, tongue.

Amen. Amen. Amen."

“Saint Paul waved the willow,

(name) drove away the pain from me.

And how true it is that people honor Palm Sunday,

It is also a holy word that my pains will go away.

Amen. Amen. Amen."

“Christ has risen, trampling down death through death.

People praise the Lord

And God’s words drive away my pain.

Prayer for Easter

“Lord, Almighty God,

Created everything from nothing!

Bless and cleanse my body,

May your work be holy and strong.

Like the heavenly body, nothing hurts,

Doesn’t whine, doesn’t tingle and doesn’t burn with fire,

So my bones wouldn’t hurt,

They didn’t whine, they didn’t ache, they didn’t burn.

The water of God comes down from heaven,

My body is being cleared of illness.

Christ rose from the dead, trampling down death by death and giving life to those in the tombs.

“Christ rose from the dead, trampling down death with death and giving life to the dead.”

Troparion of the holiday

The holiday of the Resurrection of Christ is called Easter after the Old Testament holiday established in memory of the deliverance of the Jews from Egyptian slavery. In accordance with the event of the Resurrection of Christ, remembered on this holiday, the name Easter in the Christian Church received a special meaning and began to mean the transition from death to life, from earth to heaven. “The word Easter,” says Saint Ambrose of Milan, “means passing. This holiday, the most solemn of holidays, was named so in the Old Testament Church - in remembrance of the exodus of the sons of Israel from Egypt and at the same time their deliverance from slavery, and in the New Testament Church - as a sign that the Son of God Himself, through the Resurrection from the dead, came from this world to the Heavenly Father, from earth to heaven, freeing us from eternal death and the work of the enemy and giving us “the power to be children of God” ().”

In the series of the Lord's holidays, the Easter holiday occupies a central place, and in the series of all Christian holidays it “exceeds all celebrations, even those of Christ and those celebrated in honor of Christ, as much as the sun surpasses the stars.”

The priests with the cross, lamps and incense come from the altar and together with the people, like the myrrh-bearers who went to the grave in the morning, walk around the circle of the church singing “Thy Resurrection, O Christ the Savior, the angels sing in heaven, and make us on earth worthy of You with a pure heart.” glorify." At this time, from the height of the bell tower, as if from heaven, the jubilant Easter peal is pouring.

Then the primate proclaims the verses of the ancient prophecy of the holy King David: “May God rise again and let his enemies be scattered…”, and all the people (choir) in response to each verse sing: “Christ is risen from the dead...”

Finally, the primate, holding a cross with a three-branched candlestick in his hands, with their movement draws the sign of the cross against the closed doors of the temple, they open, and the jubilant host, like the myrrh-bearers once to the apostles, enters the church, flooded with the light of all the lamps and lamps, and resounds with the song: “ Christ is risen from the dead!”

The subsequent service of Easter Matins consists of the singing of a canon composed by St. John of Damascus. The songs of this canon are separated by repeated “Christ is risen from the dead!” During the singing of the canon, the clergy with a cross and censer, preceded by lamps, go around the entire church, filling it with incense, and joyfully greet everyone with the words: “Christ is Risen,” to which the believers joyfully answer: “Truly He is Risen!” The repeated departures of the clergy from the altar remind us of the frequent appearances of the Lord to His disciples after the resurrection.

At the end of Matins, after singing: “Let us embrace each other, shouting: brethren!

If the Liturgy is celebrated by a council of priests, then the Gospel is read in different languages, as a sign that “a message has gone out” about the Lord to all peoples on earth.

CHANTS OF THE HOLY EASTER SERVICE

“Heaven, as you should, rejoice; let the earth rejoice; rejoice and the whole world, visible and invisible; for Christ has risen, the eternal joy of all.”

“Enlighten yourself, enlighten yourself, new Jerusalem; for the glory of the Lord has risen upon you; rejoice now and be glad, O Zion!

“Although You, Savior, descended into the grave, You destroyed the power of hell, and rose again, O Christ God, as a Victor, saying to the myrrh-bearing women: Rejoice! and granting peace to Your Apostles, giving resurrection to the fallen.”

The Risen Lord sent the Holy Spirit to earth and consecrated the Church of Christ on earth - the pillar and affirmation of the Truth, which will be on earth until the end of the age, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it... The soul of the Lord descended into hell after His death, crushed hell and was resurrected... The Risen Christ ascended to heaven and founded the Church there, into which the souls of all the righteous entered and continue to enter... The Church united Heaven and earth. We have one Church – earthly and heavenly. The Lord has done everything for us, let us not be traitors and murderers of ourselves. Let us purify and sanctify our souls in the sacraments of the Holy Church.

Saint Macarius, Metropolitan of Moscow

WORD OF ST. JOHN CHRYSOSTOM ON THE DAY OF HOLY PASCH

Isaiah foresaw this when he cried: hell, speaks, be upset(). Having met You in the underworld, he was upset because he was defeated, upset because he was ridiculed. He took the body, but found God, took the earth, but met the sky, took what he saw, but attacked what he did not see. Death! where is your sting? hell! where is your victory?() Christ is risen, and you are overthrown! Christ has risen and the demons have fallen! Christ has risen and the Angels rejoice! Christ has risen, and there is not a single dead person in the tomb! Christ, raised from the dead, became the firstfruits of those who died. To him be glory and power forever and ever. Amen.

“I am the resurrection and the life; He who believes in me, even if he dies, will live” [John. 11, 25]. The longed-for, saving holiday has come for us, the day of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. This holiday is a guarantee of peace, a source of reconciliation, the extermination of enemies, the destruction of death, the destruction of the devil. Today people have united with the Angels and, invested with flesh, together with the ethereal Forces, they offer songs of praise to God. Today the Lord has broken down the gates of hell and destroyed the very face of death. But what am I saying, the face of death? He even changed the very name of death: it is no longer called death, but tranquility and sleep,” writes St. John Chrysostom.

The holiday of the Holy Resurrection of Christ, Easter, is the main event of the year for Orthodox Christians and the largest Orthodox holiday. The word “Easter” came to us from the Greek language and means “passing”, “deliverance”. On this day we celebrate the deliverance through Christ the Savior of all mankind from slavery to the devil and the granting of life and eternal bliss to us. Just as our redemption was accomplished by Christ’s death on the cross, so by His Resurrection we were given eternal life.

The Resurrection of Christ is the basis of our faith. It is that first, most important, great truth, with the proclamation of which the apostles began their preaching. Just as Christ’s death on the cross accomplished the cleansing of our sins, so His resurrection granted us eternal life. Therefore, for believers, the Resurrection of Christ is a source of constant joy, unceasing rejoicing, reaching its peak on the holiday of Holy Christian Easter.

On Easter night, from April 11 to 12, His Eminence Ephraim, Bishop of Berdyansk and Primorsky, in concelebration with the clergy of the cathedral, led the solemn Easter service in the main church of the diocese - the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ in Berdyansk.

The Easter service began with the midnight office with the reading of the canon of Great Saturday “By the Wave of the Sea” - one of the saddest hymns of Great Lent, which exalts the passion and burial of Christ. However, the faithful listen to him no longer with sorrow, but with joyful anticipation of the moment of the resurrection of Christ.

While singing the words of the catavasia of the 9th song, “I will arise and be glorified,” the clergy transferred the Holy Shroud to the altar through the Royal Doors, and placed it on the throne, where it will remain until the Feast of Easter.

Easter Matins, “the joy of the Resurrection of our Lord from the dead,” began at 12 o’clock at night. As midnight approached, the Archpastor and all the clergy in full vestments, to the ringing of bells and the singing of the stichera: “Thy Resurrection, O Christ the Savior, the angels are singing in heaven, and grant us on earth to glorify Thee with a pure heart” made a religious procession around the cathedral.

The procession of the cross opens the most joyful holiday - the Bright Resurrection of Christ, this is the procession of the Church towards the risen Savior. The Church, like a spiritual bride, walks, as they say in sacred hymns, “with joyful feet to meet Christ coming from the grave, like a bridegroom.” The festive Easter service in the cathedral began with Easter matins. Having walked around the temple, the procession stopped in front of closed doors, as if in front of the entrance to the Cave of the Holy Sepulcher.

The archpastor and clergy sang the joyful Easter troparion three times: “Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death and giving life to those in the tombs,” as well as verses of the ancient prophecy of St. King David: “May God rise again and His enemies be scattered…”, after which the church doors opened, and a procession of the cross with the joyful news of the Resurrection of Christ marches to the temple, just as the myrrh-bearing women went to Jerusalem to announce to the disciples about the Resurrection of the Lord.

The Easter Matins service consists primarily of the singing of the canon. This majestic and solemn hymn in honor of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and His divine majesty is a true masterpiece of Christian liturgical poetry. It belongs to the pen of the great teacher of the Church, theologian and hymn writer St. John of Damascus, who managed to combine in this work both the sublime patristic instructions about the Resurrection of Christ and the joyful spiritual feelings of God-loving believers.

The cathedral was filled with believers who came to glorify the Resurrection of Christ. There is a special joy in the eyes of people, all the lamps and candlesticks are burning... “Christ has risen from the dead!..”

There were many children among the parishioners. On other days, at this time, children are already dreaming, but on the eve of Easter, nothing can force children to stay at home. You can see in their eyes how much pleasure it gives them to participate in the festive “adult” night service.

At the end of Easter Matins, after singing: “Let us embrace each other...”, Vladyka Ephraim, having shared Christ with the clergy, went out to the church to congratulate all believers on the feast of the Resurrection of Christ. His Eminence presented everyone who came to the temple with an Easter red egg, a sign of the rebirth of all living things, awakening.

The custom of giving each other colored eggs for Easter dates back to the 1st century AD. Church tradition says that in those days it was customary to bring him a gift when visiting the emperor. And when the poor disciple of Christ, Saint Mary Magdalene came to Rome to Emperor Tiberius preaching the faith, she gave Tiberius a simple chicken egg.

Tiberius did not believe Mary’s story about the Resurrection of Christ and exclaimed: “How can someone rise from the dead? This is as impossible as if this egg suddenly turned red.” Immediately, before the eyes of the emperor, a miracle happened - the egg turned red, testifying to the truth of the Christian faith.

At the end of Matins, the Ruling Archpastor read the Catechetical Word of St. John Chrysostom, beginning with the words: “Whoever is pious and God-loving, let him enjoy this good and bright celebration...”. The saint in his Easter creation calls on everyone to rejoice in the risen Savior: “Rich and poor, rejoice with each other. Temperance and laziness, honor the day. Those who have fasted and those who have not fasted, rejoice today..." and proclaims the eternal victory of Christ over death and hell: "Where is your sting, O death? Where the hell is your victory? Christ is risen, and you are cast down. Christ is risen, and the demons have fallen. Christ is risen and the angels rejoice. Christ is risen, and life lives. Christ is risen, and the dead are not alone in the tomb.”

After the solemn Easter matins, a sequence of Easter hours was performed, which consist of Easter hymns glorifying the joyful event of Christ's resurrection.

On Easter night, Vladika Ephraim, co-served by the clergy of the cathedral, celebrated the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom with the Royal Doors open, which are open from the beginning of Matins and do not close for a whole week as a sign that Jesus Christ has forever opened the gates of the Heavenly Kingdom for us.

Many believers on this day wish to partake of the Holy Mysteries of Christ in order to take part in a joint meal with the risen Christ.

Following the prayer behind the pulpit, His Eminence consecrated the artos. The word artos is translated from Greek as “leavened bread” - consecrated bread common to all members of the Church, otherwise - whole prosphora.

The use of artos dates back to the very beginning of Christianity. On the fortieth day after the Resurrection, the Lord Jesus Christ ascended to heaven. The disciples and followers of Christ found consolation in prayerful memories of the Lord; they remembered His every word, every step and every action. When they came together for common prayer, they, remembering the Last Supper, partook of the Body and Blood of Christ. When preparing an ordinary meal, they left the first place at the table to the invisibly present Lord and placed bread in this place.

Having consecrated the artos, Vladyka Ephraim read a prayer for the consecration of Easter food. At the end of a long fast, the Church allows us to rejoice in the bright Resurrection not only spiritually, but also physically, blessing for consumption foods that were prohibited during fasting.

At the end of the festive Liturgy, the Ruling Archpastor read the Easter message of the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine, and then congratulated everyone on the bright day of the Resurrection of the Lord.

At the end of the Easter service, Vladyka Ephraim blessed Easter cakes, Easter eggs and eggs for the Easter meal of believers, greeting everyone with the words “Christ is risen!” ".

With the blessing of His Eminence Ephraim, Bishop of Berdyansk and Primorsky, the press service of the Berdyansk diocese and the YuG TV channel conducted a live television broadcast of the night Easter service from the main church of the diocese. The service was commented in Russian by the head of the diocesan department for family affairs, Priest Alexander Rekotov, and in Ukrainian by the press secretary of the diocese, Oleg Zotov.
